With the increase of responsibility for the spatial development a focus on spatial assignments on the scale of the Southwing has become a necessity. The Atelier Zuidvleugel will, from May 2005 till October 2007, study the Networkcity Southwing as part of the Randstad Holland.
The work in the atelier concentrates on 5 themes which are described in the working program of the atelier.
The first two are research themes, ment to generate broader knowledge about the Southwing.
- Southwing elementary encompasses the question from which elements the Southwing is spatially composed.
- Identities concerns the properties and characteristics by which the Southwing distinguishes itself from other regions.
The other three research questions focus on the functional interrelationships of the Souhwing.
- Accessibility is the theme in which the interrelationships between transport system and urban systems are explored to reach a better accessibility of the Southwing.
- Mixed use areas deals with the question hoe the mixing of living and working can support a better environment for both and how it can strengthen existing neighbourhoods.
- In between space looks at the green, open space of the Southwing which, by extensive urbanisation, has been transformed into an in between space which lacks articulation.
